Kuba textiles are unique to the kuba people of of central africa (the democratic republic of congo, formerly zaire). Strands of raffia palm leaves are dyed in a variety of earthy tones using vegetable dyes; then the fabric is hand woven, often in a series of geometric patterns. There are two main types of kuba cloth; cut pile which is cut to form a surface resembling velvet and flat woven which is often decorated by embroidery embellishments. The meticulous craftsmanship, which has gone into making the cloth on these cushions, means that each of these pieces is a unique creation. The elemental colours and intricate patterns would add depth and warmth to any interior.
